Hungarian F1 GP result – McLaren Honda take fastest lap
Being the final race before the summer break, teams were pushing to do their best. The Ferrari’s held on to the top two places despite efforts from Mercedes to attack. Lewis Hamilton felt he had pace over his team mate Bottas, and the team organised him to move from 4th to 3rd overtaking his team mate on turn one to try to catch the 2nd place Kimi Raikkonen. Hamilton was unable to make the pass by the end of the race, and true to his word, he let his team mate Valtteri Bottas back through to 3rd place.
Sebastian Vettel complained of steering issues, slowing the pace of his Ferrari, with team mate Raikkonen staying in second place, rather than attacking for the lead.
Red bulls driver, Max Verstappen, had contact with Daniel Ricciardo after loosing some places early on in the race, causing Ricciardo in the other Redbull to retire.
The surprise of the race was Fernando Alonso setting the fastest lap in his McLaren Honda, hopefully this is a sign of things to come from the team and they can make further improvements over the summer break.
